Core Concepts
- How do credits work?
Credits are the currency you use for any AI action within Spine Canvas. Each time you generate content with an AI block—such as chatting with an LLM, creating an image, or running a deep research report—it consumes credits.
What consumes credits?
Any action that uses an AI model to generate new content. The amount of credits used depends on the complexity of the task and the AI model you select.
What is always free?
Importing data into Spine Canvas does not consume credits. You can upload files, websites, images, and existing LLM chats into your canvases at no cost to use as context.
A note on bulk actions:
Be mindful that using features like Bulk Run or Duplicate & Re-run can consume credits rapidly, as every individual AI action is billed.
- What is a block?
A block is a fundamental component of your Spine Canvas workspace. Each block represents a specific tool or piece of content. There are two main types:
- AI Blocks: These are the tools that perform actions and consume credits. Examples include Chat, Image Generation, Prompt, and Deep Research.
- Content Blocks: These blocks hold your source material and provide context for your AI. Adding them is always free. Examples include Files, Websites, YouTube videos, and Notes.
- How much do credits cost per action?
Credit consumption is dynamic and depends on two main factors: the AI model you select and the type of block you use.
- Standard AI Blocks: For blocks like Chat, Prompt, and Image Generation, the credit cost is determined by the price of the AI model you choose. More powerful models (e.g., GPT-5, Claude 4.1 Opus) consume more credits than more economical models.
- Agentic AI Blocks: Advanced blocks like Deep Research or Slides have a higher credit cost. This is because they perform complex operations, often involving multiple AI model calls behind the scenes to produce a single, comprehensive result.
- Connected Blocks Multiplier: When you connect blocks together, credits increase to account for the additional context processing. For every 3 connected blocks, the cost increases by 1× block price. For example: 0-3 connected blocks = 1x multiplier, 4-6 connected blocks = 2x multiplier, 7-9 connected blocks = 3x multiplier, and so on.
You are in control.
You can select different AI models for most blocks to balance performance with your credit budget. You can always see the model pricing in the block's model selector or on the Model Settings page.
Account & Billing
- What happens if I run out of credits?
If you run out of credits, you have two options:
- Upgrade your plan at any time from the Credits menu for immediate access to more credits.
- Wait for your next billing cycle to begin, at which point your monthly credits will reset.
- Do my monthly credits roll over?
No, unused credits do not roll over. Your credit balance resets at the start of each monthly billing cycle.
- Can I change my subscription plan?
Yes, you can change your plan at any time from the Credits page.
- Upgrades take effect immediately, giving you instant access to more credits and features.
- Downgrades will become effective at the start of your next billing cycle.
